Consider C-Spine

What is the level of consciousness? (AVPU)
What is the chief complaint of the patient?
Are there any other life threats?
Airway
- Opens and assesses airway
- Insert Adjunct as INDICATED
Breathing
- Assess breathing
- Assure adequate ventilation
- Initiate appropriate oxygen therapy (NRM, BVM, Nasal cannula)
- Manage any other injuries
Circulation
- Checks pulse
- Assess skin (color, temp, condition)
- Manage bleeding
- Manage shock
Load n go or Stay n play
Obtain baseline vitals (BP, Pulse, Respirations)
Obtain SAMPLE
Secondary assessment now
Head
- Inspect and palpate scalp and ears
- Assesses eyes
- Inspects mouth, nose, and face area
Neck
- Checks the position of the trachea
- Checks jugular veins
- Palpate cervical spine
Chest
- Inspect
- Palpate
- Auscultates
Abdomen/ Pelvis
- Inspects and palpates the abdomen
- Assess pelvis
- Verbalizes genitalia as needed
Lower extremities
Inspect, Palpates, and assesses motor, sensory, and distal circulatory functions
Upper extremities
Inspect, Palpates, and assesses motor, sensory, and distal circulatory functions
Posterior thorax, lumbar, and buttocks
- Inspects and palpates posterior thorax
- inspects and palpates lumbar and buttocks area
Manages secondary injuries and wounds appropriately
Reassess every 10 - 15 mins for a stable patient and every 5 mins for an unstable patient
