PC2 Revision Flashcards
What is a tissue
Many similar cells working together to perform a particular function
What is an organ
Many different tissues working together
What does the respiratory system consist of
Nose/Mouth, trachea, bronchi, lungs, bronchioles and the alveoli
Where is the site of gas exchange
Alveoli
Name the parts of the skeletal system that protect the lungs
Rib cage and sternum
What is the function of a muscle
To allow movement by contracting and relaxing
What is a drug
A chemical substance that has an effect on the body
In which state of matter do the particles have the most energy
Gas
State the 4 changes of state
Melting, Boiling, Condensing and freezing
Why does a solid change state when heated
The energy gained by the particles allows them to partly overcome the strong forces holding them in place
In which state to the particles have the highest density
Solid
What causes gas pressure
Gas pressure is caused by collisions between the gas particles and the container
How does volume affect the pressure
As the volume decreases, the pressure increases
What does luminous mean
Objects that give out light
What is reflection
When light bounces off a surface back to the medium it came from
Why does refraction occur
The speed of light changes as it moves from one medium to another causing a change in direction
What are the primary colours of light
Blue
Green
Red
What are the differences between light and sound
Light is a transverse wave, sound is a longitudinal wave. Light travels at 300,000,000m/s, sound travels at 330m/s
What happens if you increase the frequency of a sound wave
The pitch increases
What is weight
The force of gravity acting on a mass
What is an orbit
The curved path of an object in space around another object in space
List the planets of the solar system in order
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
How long does it take for the Earth to orbit the sun
365 days
What causes day and night
The Earth rotates once every 24 hours on its axis
