Autosomal Recessive Traits
A
- usually appears in both sexes w/ equal frequency
- Tends to skip generations
- Affected offspring are usually born to unaffected parents
4.When both parent are heterozygous approximately 1/4 of offspring among the children of consanguineous mating
4
Q
Autosomal Dominant Traits
A
- Usually appears in both sexes w/ equal frequency
- Both sexes transmit the trait to their offspring
- Does not skip generations
- Affected offspring must have an affected parent unless they possess a new mutation
5.When one parent is affected (heterozygous) & the other parent is unaffected, 1/2 of offspring will be affected - Unaffected parents do not transmit the trait
5
Q
X-Linked Recessive Traits
A
- Usually more males than females affected
2.Affected sons are usually born to affected to unaffected mother; thus the traits skips generations - Approximately half of a carrier (heterzygous) mother’s sons are affected
- Never passed from mother to son
- All daughters of affected fathers are carriers
6
Q
X-Linked Dominant Traits
A
- Both males and females are usually affected; often more females than males are affected
- Does not skip generations. Affected sons must have an affected mother; affected daughters must have either an affected mother or father
