- Autosomal recessive
- Sickling of RBCs due to aa substitution
- American blacks
- Onset in first year of life

- Smooth tounge, brittle nails, spooning
- Pica

- Asian & africans
- Protects from malaria

- Episodic hemolysis with oxidant stress
- Pallor, jaundice, hyperbilirubinemia
G6PD deficiency- Dx
Heinz bodies, decreased G6PD in erythrocytes
G6PD deficiency- Tx
- Avoid drugs, fav
- Phototherapy
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura- Eti
- Most common bleedign disorder in children
- 2-5 yo, post viral
- Decreased platelets
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura- Sx
- Petechiae
- Eccymosis
- Epsitaxis

Decreased platelets, increased megakaryocytes

- None, avoid ASA & NSAIDs
