Q

A toaster is reduced in price by 40% in the sales. It originally cost £68. What is the new toaster price?

A
  1. Write 40% as a decimal 40% = 40/100 = 0.4
  2. Multiply to find 40% of £68 0.4 x £68 = £27.20
  3. It’s a decrease, so subtract from the original £68 - £27.20 = £40.80
                                 or

68/100 = 0.68
0.68 x 40 = 27.2
£68 - 27.2 = £40.80
