Describe the types of thromboprophylaxis
A
Mechanical or pharmacological
Mechanical:
-TEDS
-IPCs
Pharmacological:
-Anticoagulation: LMWH, DOAC

What are some contraindications to TEDS?
A
- Acute stroke
- PAD
- Severe oedema
- Gangrene

Who should have thromboprophylaxis?
A
All patients admitted to hospital must be assessed for need + type (mechanical vs pharm)
Surgical patients:
- All should have TEDS
- Gen surg/ortho should usually have pharm
- LMWH is standard, unfrac for renal impairment
- Special for elective hip + knee replacement
