16
Q

Quartet of cardiac tamponade

A

Beck’s triad (high JVP, HoTN, muffled HS)

PLUS pulsus paradoxus

17
Q

Signs/symptoms of cardiac tamponade

A

Tachypnea, dyspnea, shock, muffled heart sounds
Pulsus paradoxus (inspiratory fall in sBP>10)
Hepatic congestion/peripheral edema

18
Q

ECG of cardiac tamponade

A
electrical alternans (pathognomonic variation in R wave amplitude)
low voltage
19
Q

Echo of cardiac tamponade

A

Pericardial effusion

Compression of cardiac chambers in diastole

20
Q

Treatment of cardiac tamponade

A

Pericardiocentesis
Pericardiotomy

Avoid diuretics and vasodilators (decreases preload in already underfilled RV, reduces CO)

Treat underlying cause
