What is a Periodisation of Training
The process of directing a performer’s training in order to allow them to peak.
What is a Macro cycle
A cycle throughout the whole year. Unless in prep for the Olympics which is 4 years.
What is a Micro cycle
A week of training broken down into units of training.
What is a Meso cycle
Smaller cycle of training, often a month to 6 weeks. These are often used during throughout one macro cycle.
What are Units
A period of training with a specific aim. Training sessions contain at least one unit per session.
What are the 6 phases of training
- General Fitness
- Specific Fitness
- Start of Competition
- Competition
- End of Competition
- Recovery/Transition
Why is it important to plan a training week.
- Long term development
- Weekly club performance
- Team preparation
- Need for recovery
- Injury prevention and rehab
What is Tapering
When you gradually reduce training intensity over a period of up to 14 days beforehand.
This enables the athlete to be fresh and full of energy for the event.
