Pertussis is caused by
bordetella pertusis
which is very contagious

paroxysmal cough, whooping

Tdap has lower diptheria and acellular pertussis to avoid local rxns in adults
recommendations
DTaP for younger than 7 yrs Tdap: - boostrix (GSK) for 10 yrs or older -Adacel (sanofi pasteur) 11 to 64 boostrix for 65 and older, adacel if boostrix not available
Pregnant women
- should get Tdap - protects child until DTaP
- every pregnancy
- 27-36 weeks gestation
- if no give ASAP post-pardum
- admin Tdap to caregivers or fam memb o/ infant if indic
use DTaP for
6 wks to 6 yrs
use 1 dose Tdap
7 to 10 yrs not fully vacc
more than 1 dose Tdap
if no record of Tdap give 1 dose followed by 1 dose of Td every 10 yrs
Pregnant women (every pregnancy)
1 dose Tdap after 20 weeks gestation
