(11 cards)
What are the two circuits of the cardiovascular system?
Pulmonary and Systemic Circuits
What does the pulmonary circuit do?
Circulates blood through the lungs
What does the systemic circuit do?
Circulates blood through body tissues
What is the order of blood flow in the pulmonary circuit starting from the right atrium?
Right atrium → Right ventricle → Pulmonary trunk → Pulmonary arteries → Arterioles of the lungs → Pulmonary capillaries
What happens in the pulmonary capillaries?
CO2 and O2 are exchanged
Where does oxygenated blood go after the pulmonary capillaries?
Enters pulmonary venules, then pulmonary veins, and finally back to the left atrium
True or False: In the pulmonary circuit, veins carry carbon dioxide and arteries carry oxygen.
False
What is the starting point of the systemic circuit?
Left ventricle
What does the systemic circuit include?
All blood vessels except those in the Pulmonary Circuit
Fill in the blank: The heart can be viewed as two separate _______.
pumps
What is the role of the pulmonary arteries?
Divide into arterioles of the lungs
