  1. GET TEMP DOWN AND OXYGEN UP!!!
    - ice packs, cooling blankets
  • do not use Tylenol, do not medicate
  • patient has to get out themselves

thyroidectomy postop risks

A

(1st 12 hours): airway (its in trachea so obvi) & hemorrhage (watch for swallowing)

(12-48 hours):
- Total = tetany d/t low calcium, can cut off airway)
- Subtotal: thyroid storm

(>48 hours): INFECTION BUT IT HAS TO BE AFTERRRRRR 72 HOURS SO DO NOT CHOOSE THAT

s/s: hyperpigmented (TAN), do not adapt to stress (LOW glucose and BP = LEADS TO SHOCK)
