Pharmacology Flashcards
(18 cards)
What is the measurement for GTN?
400mcg
How does GTN work?
Dilates coronary arteries, increasing blood flow to compromised heart tissue in MI.
Vasodilation resulting in lower preload and BP
Name 3 contraindications of GTN
Allergy, viagra, systemic BP <90mmHg, head trauma, hypovolemia, unconscious patients.
What is the measurement for salbutamol?
5mg
How does salbutamol work?
Short acting, selective beta2- adrengic receptor agonist- activates G protein coupled receptors and subsequent enzymes stopping the activity of myosin chain- stops smooth muscle contraction- bronchodilation
What is the next drug after salbutamol?
Ipatropium Bromide
What’s the measurement for Ipatropium Bromide?
500mcg
How does Ipatropium Bromide work?
Causes bronchodilation, blocks acetylcholine which causes bronchoconstriction
How does aspirin work?
Blocks enzyme cycloxygenase, which reduces the formation of blood clots which may be blocking arteries and causing ischemia.
What is the measurement for aspirin?
300mg
Name the 4 heart auscultation places
Atrial, pulmonary, erbs point, tricuspid and mitral
How does morphine work ?
what type of pain is associated with ACS?
constant/crushing/dull/constant
how does pleuretic chest pain present?
Sharp isolated chest pain, exacerbated when breathing/ coughing/ moving, often associated with cough and pleural friction upon auscultation
how does pericarditis present?
global widespread ST elevation and PR depression, sharp central or left-sided chest pain, may radiate into the arms or neck, may show signs of infection.
how does a PE present?
SOB (can be sudden onset), sharp pleuritic chest pain, productive cough/ sputum- blood or stained, lower limb pain, sudden immobility, DVT or long haul flights
What is the STEMI criteria?
ST elevation in atleast 2 contiguous leads -
- 2.5mm in men under 40yrs
- 2mm in men aged over 40 yrs
- 1.5mm in women in v2/v3
and/or the inferior and/or lateral leads
