Pharmacology Flashcards
(6 cards)
Pharmacophore
The structural fragment of a molecule which gives it pharmacological activity by binding to a receptor. The functional group on the pharmacophore and be receptor are correctly positioned to interject and bind.
Agonist
Enhances the bodies natural responses (produced a response like the bodies natural response)
Antagonist
Blocks the body’s natural responses & produces no response itself
Mass spectroscopy
Used to determine the accurate molecular mass and structural features of an organic compound
IR spectroscopy
Used to identify specific functional groups in organic compounds
NMR spectroscopy
Used to gain information about the chemical environment of hydrogen atoms in organic molecules
