Suffix for Beta Blockers
What are they used for?
-olol
Hypertension, HF, or Dysrhythmia.
Beta Blocker side effects
Light headedness, bradycardia, hypotension, fatigue. Can cause high or low blood sugars.
What vitals do you check before administering Beta Blockers?
HR and BP
ACE Inhibitor side effects
CHRONIC COUGH, hypotension, fatigue
Adverse effects of ACE Inhibitors and ARB
Hyperkalemia, Angioedema (notify provider or rapid response)
ARB side effects
Light headedness, hypotension, fatigue. NO COUGH
What are the main Potassium Sparing Diuretic drugs?
Potassium sparing diuretics Amilorde, Spironolactone (hormonal acne), Triamterene, Epleronome

What are they used for?

What do you check before administering Thiazide diuretics?
Check BP, K, and Calcium before giving

Light headedness, hypotension, fatigue, hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypomagnesemia, HYPERcalcemia

What are they used for?

Lower cholesterol to reduce risk of CV events (from Diabetes)

What are they used for?

Affect the contractility and conductivity of the heart for Hypertension and a-fib.
What are the 3 main Calcium Channel Blockers?
Verapamil, Nifedipine, Diltiazem

What are they used for?

HF, Hypertension, Edema
What are the main High Loop Diuretic drugs?
Ethacrynic acid, Torasemide, Furosemide, Azosemide, Bumetanide

Hyponatremia, Hypokalemia, Hypomagnesemia, Ototoxicity
What are Opioids used for?
Pain and suppressing cough. Potentially addictive.
What are the side effects of opioids?
“MORPHINE”
Myosis (pupils constrict), Out of it (sedated/lethargic), Respiratory depression, Pneumonia (aspiration), Hypotension, Infrequency (constipation & urinary retention), Nausea, Emesis (vomit).
What is the antidote for opioids?
naloxone (Narcan)
