A
  • Sore throat
  • fever
  • malaise
  • headache (2-4 days after exposure)
  • erythematous tonsils with exudate

What are the symptoms of this progression?

A

Scarlet fever

  • Erythematous sunburn-like rash
  • fever
  • yellowish coat on tongue that can be scraped off to reveal raw tongue surface (strawberry tongue)

A

Symptomology is usually sufficient

What is the treatment for pharyngitis and scarlet fever?

A
  • Oral amoxicillin
  • Rest

Erythromycin or clindamycin if patient is allergic to penicillin
