What are the prohibitions associated with the use of the SVS?
It’s prohibited to use as primary information to base decisions and/or plan maneuvers, to navigate, or to avoid terrain, obstacles, or traffic.
When must the crew activate the Ice Protection System?
Must be activated in existing or anticipated icing conditions per Section 3, Normal Procedures.
Define “when icing conditions exist or are anticipated.”
Icing conditions exist, using SAT on the ground or for takeoff and TAT in flight, it’s 10 degrees C or colder and visible moisture in any form is present such as clouds, fog with visibility of one more or less, rain, snow, sleet, and ice crystals. Icing conditions also exist on the ground, using SAT on the ground of 10 degrees C or below, and ramps, taxiways or runways are contaminated with surface snow, ice, standing water, or slush.
What is the limitation regarding contaminated aircraft surfaces?
Takeoff is prohibited with frost, ice, snow, or slush adhering the wings, control surfaces, engine inlets, or other critical surfaces.
In what environmental condition is flight prohibited?
Flight in freezing drizzle or freezing rain is prohibited. We must exit these conditions immediately.
What are the limitations regarding use of the Autopilot in icing conditions?
Use of the autopilot is prohibited in severe icing, when there is unusual control forces, deflections or large control forces with autopilot OFF, and indications of frequent re-trimming during straight and level flight.
When must the Wing Inspection Light be operative?
Must be operative prior to flight into known or forecast icing conditions at night.
