What are plosives?
They involve a small ‘explosion’ of air and its released from the articulators
What are fricatives?
They involve high frequency energy, like friction between articulators
Approximants?
Open approximation, wide degree of stricture, can be maintained
Nasal?
Same close-hold-release gesture as plosives, but the velum is lowered and airflows through the nasal passage.
