PHOTOCHEMICAL PROCESS Flashcards

1
Q

energizing a flux of photos

A

energy is proportional to the frequency of light and inversely proportional to the wavelength ( delta= c/v velocity/ frequency)

Q

What is needed for the absorbtion of energy from th ephoton?

A

energy of photon must coincide with the energy of one of the higher energy states of the molecule. Widely spaced molecular states leads to discrete lines of absorbtioon, while densly spaces states will give a continuous absorbtion

Q

where can the energy go once transferred to a molecule?

A
  • Radiation- (fluorescence)
  • dissipation by collision (Quenching)
  • chemical transformations (isomerisations, dissociations, ionizations etc)
  • transfer energy to other molecule to react (sensitization)
  • enter a chemical reaction directly
