Photosynthesis Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
Calvin cycle process step 1
A
Carbon fixation: the enzyme rubisco catalyse the reaction of ribulose biphosphate and CO2 into 2x glycerate-3-phosphate
2
Q
What is the enzyme used in the Calvin cycle?
A
Rubisco
3
Q
Calvin cycle step 2
A
Reduction: reduced NADP from the LDR reduces Glycerate-3-phosphate into triose phosphate using energy from ATP. NADPH reduces 2x glycerate-3-phosphate into 2x triose phosphate and energy from ATP.
4
Q
Calvin cycle step 3
A
Regeneration: some triose phosphate is converted into useful organic compounds like glucose. Some is regenerated back into Ribulose phosphate using energy from ATP to maintain its supply
5
Q
Describe the Calvin cycle
A
- CO2 combines with ribulose biphosphate (RuBP)
- Produces two glycerate (3-) phosphate using the enzyme rubisco
- 2x GP is reduced to 2x triose phosphate (TP)
- Using reduced NADP
- Using energy from ATP
- Triose phosphate converted to glucose/hexose/RuBP/ ribulose biphosphate/ other named substance
