Q

Calvin cycle step 2

A

Reduction: reduced NADP from the LDR reduces Glycerate-3-phosphate into triose phosphate using energy from ATP. NADPH reduces 2x glycerate-3-phosphate into 2x triose phosphate and energy from ATP.

Q

Calvin cycle step 3

A

Regeneration: some triose phosphate is converted into useful organic compounds like glucose. Some is regenerated back into Ribulose phosphate using energy from ATP to maintain its supply

Q

Describe the Calvin cycle

A
  1. CO2 combines with ribulose biphosphate (RuBP)
  2. Produces two glycerate (3-) phosphate using the enzyme rubisco
  3. 2x GP is reduced to 2x triose phosphate (TP)
  4. Using reduced NADP
  5. Using energy from ATP
  6. Triose phosphate converted to glucose/hexose/RuBP/ ribulose biphosphate/ other named substance
