Q

What are 6 common photovoltaic system configurations?

A
  1. Integrated (often disposable)
  2. Day use (modules wired direct to DC appliance w/out any storage device)
  3. DC with storage (need for charge controller to manage overcharge and discharge rates)
  4. DC systems powering AC loads (need inverter)
  5. Hybrid systems pv combined with generator or timber produced power.
  6. Grid tied systems. Connected to a utility grid

Q

Name the 9 primary components of a photovoltaic system.

A
  1. Photovoltaic cell
  2. Module (configuration of pv cells laminated between a clear glazing and an encapsulating substrate.)
  3. Panel ( a group of modules)
  4. Array (one or more panels wired together for a specific voltage)
  5. Charge controller…the thing that regulates battery voltage
  6. Battery…device that chemically stores direct electrical current or energy.
  7. Inverter….a device that changes doc into ac
  8. DC loads…..things that are powered by direct current
  9. AC loads…..things that are powered with alternating current
