16
Q

atpase

A

breaks down atp

17
Q

actin

A

contractile protein

18
Q

tropomyosin

A

resting, covers myosin binding sites blocking interaction

19
Q

troponin

A

shifts it shape
made of 3 units:
binds to tropomyosin
binds to actin
binds with Ca2+

20
Q

sliding filament mechanism

A

contraction is accomplished by thin filaments from opposite sides of each sarcomere sliding closer together between thick filaments
- sarcomere brings together = shorter

21
Q

steps of sliding filament mechanism

A
  1. attachment of a myosin cross bridge to a thin filament
  2. swiveling of myosin head=powerstroke
  3. detachment of the cross bridge from the thin filament (adp released)
  4. reattach to a new actin binding site
  5. repeat cycle
22
Q

at rest myosin and actin do not interact

22
Q

what allows interaction

A

troponin tells tropomyosin to move and tropomyosin blocks actin binding sites

23
sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR)
stored calcium
23
calcium releases inside of cell and binds to troponin
