What are uses of static electricity?
Air filtration, photocopying, spraying of paint.
What is static electricity?
Static electricity is generated when a object either gains or loses electric charge in the form of electrons.
How do objects become positively charged?
When they lose electrons.
How do objects become negatively charged?
When they gain electrons.
Will two positively charged materials attract or repel each other?
Repel
Will two negatively charged materials attract or repel each other?
Repel
Will a positively charged material and a negatively charged material attract or repel
Attract
What is the symbol for a lamp and it’s use?
a circle with a cross inside.
Gives out light energy when circuit is complete.
What is the symbol for a Voltmeter and it’s use?
A circle with a ‘V’ inside.
Measures the voltage produced by the power supply.
What is the symbol for a Ammeter and it’s use?
A circle with a ‘A’ inside.
Measures the flow of electrons in the circuit know as the current.
What is the symbol for a Resistor and it’s use?
A rectangle
It reduces the flow of electrons in the circuit.
What is the symbol for a Variable Resistor and it’s use?
A rectangle with an arrow going diagonal through it.
It reduces the flow of electrons in a circuit, the resistance can be changed.
What is the symbol for a Cell and it’s use?
A sideways t with a another sideways t with a thick vertical line.
Transforms chemical energy into electrical enrgy.
What is the symbol for a battery and it’s use?
multiple cells.
Two or more cells in a series.
What is the symbol for a open switch and it’s use?
a circle with a line going diagonally down and another circle parallel to the first.
Breaks the circuit
What is the symbol for a closed switch and it’s use?
a circle with a line connecting to another circle.
It connects the components in a circuit.
What is the symbol for a thermistor and it’s use?
rectangle with a flat tick through it.
The resistance depends on the temperature.
What should always do when drawing a circuit?
Use a ruler
Use circuit symbols
Draw wires as straight lines
Never put components on corners
What is an conductor?
A material that allows an eletric current to pass through it.
What is an example of an conductor?
Silver, gold, copper, steel and sea water
What is an insulator
A material that will not allow an electric current to pass through it.
What is an example of an insulator?
Rubber, glass, oil, diamond, dry wood.
What is a current?
An electric current is a flow of negative charge around a circuit.
is the current the same or different in a series circuit?
The current is the same at all points in a series circuit.
