what triboelectric charging
when two materials are rubbed together, causing electrons to transfer from one material to the other, creating a charge on both objects.
Example: Rubbing a balloon on your hair. The balloon becomes negatively charged, while your hair becomes positively charged.
ploarzation
when the charge distribution within an object shifts in response to an external electric field, causing opposite charges to accumulate on different sides of the object.
Example: When a negatively charged rod is brought near a neutral metal object, the electrons in the metal are repelled, causing the near side of the object to become positively charged and the far side to become negatively charged
induction
induction is the process of generating an electric charge in a neutral object without direct contact, by bringing a charged object near it, causing the charges within the neutral object to rearrange.
Example: When a charged rod is brought near a metal sphere, it induces a charge separation in the sphere, even though they don’t touch.
conduction
is the transfer of electric charge through a material material, usually a conductor, when objects are in direct contact with each other.
Example: Touching a metal rod to a negatively charged object will transfer some of the negative charge to the rod by conduction.
grounding
is the process of transferring unwanted charge from an object to the Earth, which can absorb or neutralize the charge.
Example: If you touch a charged object to the ground (like a metal rod connected to the Earth), the excess charge will flow into the Earth, neutralizing the object.
