Physics Flashcards
(14 cards)
What word best describes the distance from any poiont on a wave to an identical point on the next wave?
The Wavelength

What is the missing name from the diagram?

Amplitude
What is air resistance?
Air resistance is an object pushing through the air causing friction.
What force is most likely experienced when you rub your hands together?
Friction
What does gravity do?
Gravity is a force pulling together all matter (which is anything you can physically touch). The more matter, the more gravity.
What is the name for a reflected sound wave?
An Echo.
What is the force of gravity on the Earths surface?
Approximately 10 Newtons per kg
If you were on a planet twice the size of Earth what would you expect the gravity to be?
It would have a higher gravitational force because the planet has more mass.
More Mass = More Gravity
What is the speed of sound?
340 m/s (metres per second)
Where does a sound wave travel fastest?
Through a solid
Why does sound travel slowly through a gas?
Because in a gas the molecules are spread out which makes it harder for the vibrations to be passed on.
Why cant anyone hear you scream in space?
Because space is a Vacuum and sound cannot travel through a vacuum
What is the equation to calculate distance?
Discance = Speed x Time
