Physics Definitons Q1 Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is Electric Charge?
A property of matter that causes objects to experience a force when placed in an electric field.
What is Electron Movement?
Electrons move easily compared to Protons and Neutrons, which remain in the Nucleus.
What is a Conductor?
Materials that allow Electrons to move freely.
Example: Copper, aluminum, water.
What is an Insulator?
Materials that do not allow electrons to move easily.
Example: Plastic, rubber, glass.
What is a Semiconductor?
Materials that can conduct electricity under certain conditions (e.g., silicon).
What is Static Electricity?
Occurs when electric charges build up on an object.
What is Electrostatic Series?
A list of materials ranked by how easily they Gain or Lose electrons
What is Lightning?
A large-scale example of static electricity.
What is Induction?
The process by which an object gains charge without direct contact
