list three forces
gravitational force, electromagnetic force, strong nuclear force
what is gravitational force
it is a non contact force which is responsible for attractive interactions between masses.
which law is related to gravitational force.
the force is governed by newtons law of gravitation.
what does newtons law of gravitation suggest
it suggests that the mass of an object is directly proportional to the magnitude of the gravitational force.
what is electromagnetic force
a non contact force which is responsible for the attractiveness between charged particles.
what happens if same charge particles are in close proximity of each other
they will repel
what happens if oppositely charged particles are in close proximity of each other
they will attract each other
what is strong nuclear force
binds protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom
what is the si unit of force
1 Newton (N)
convert 1 Newton to kg/m^2
1 kg/m^2
what are contact forces
forces that act between two masses who are physically interacting with each other
what are non contact forces
those which act between two masses not physically interacting with one another.
give 3 examples of contact forces
applied force, frictional force, normal force
what is applied force
characterized by the exertion of force between bodies
give an example of applied force
person pushing a box where the person exerts force onto the box
what is frictional force
the resistive force which a surface exerts upon an object moving over the surface.
give an example of frictional force
person pushing box over carpet.
why is the frictional force exerted by a carpet more than the force exerted by the floor
it is because the particles in the carpet are larger than the ones on the floor so there will be more collisions between the particles of the box and the particles in the carpet
what is normal force
supportive force exerted upon an object that is in contact with another stable object.
give an example of normal force
force exerted by a table on a book resting on it to support the weight of the book.
what is tension
the pulling force transmitted axially by means of a rope, string etc.
what force can be described as the action reaction pair of forces acting at each end of said means.
tension
what is air resistance
force caused by the collision between air particles and an object accelerating or falling down in air.
give another name for drag
air resistance
