Q

How are sound waves made?

A

By vibrating objects. Sound waves are created by vibrating that compress and expand air, creating sound waves that go through our ears.

Q

What is a transverse wave?

A

In a transverse wave, vibrations go up and down. The particles vibrate perpendicular to the motion of the wave.

Q

What is a longitudinal wave?

A

In a longitudinal wave, vibrations travel side to side or back n forth. Particles vibrate parallel to the wave.

Q

How does our ear detect sounds?

A

The outer ear gathers the sound wave and directs it down to the auditory canal and then to the ear drum. Here the ear drum vibrates making the ossicles(smallest bones in our boday) vibrate. The membranes and bones of the middle ear transfer the vibration of a sound wave from your outer to inner ear. Your inner ear converts the sound wave into an electrical signal that goes to your brain.
