When does a child experience the sensori-motor stage?
From birth to age 2.
What is the sensori-motor stage?
A Period of time where a child explores the world through its 5 senses. (Child is egocentric)
When does a child grasp object permanence, and what is it?
It is the realisation that an object doesn’t cease to exist, even though they cannot see it. This occurs during the sensori-motor stage between 8-12 months.
What is the preoperational stage?
A stage at which children are prone to ‘magical thinking’ where children are not able to think logically about causes and effects.(Egocentrism ceases during this stage, although egocentric speech continues)
When does the preoperational stage occur?
Between the ages of 2 and 7.
What is the concrete operational stage?
Children begin to think logically but do so in a concrete manner instead of an abstract manner.
When does the concrete operational stage occur?
Between the ages of 7 to 11.
What is the formal operational stage?
A stage where abstract reasoning develops.
When does the formal operational stage occur?
Between the ages of 11 and 16.
