Protect Life in Washoe County
The Sheriffs Office will protect Citizens of Washoe county by reducing crime and victimization by developing and implementing best practices and partnering with the communities we serve. We will address part 1 violent and property crimes utilizing stratified policing strategies to identified crime trends and deploy resources in the most efficient manor

Community Engagement
Continue to develop and strengthen community policing relationships between the Sheriff’s Office and the public we serve to include those communities that are underrepresented.
Building a safe community requires a building strong partnership and addressing root causes of crime and social disorder. We will expand our current community partnerships and leverage community resources to enhance the services we provide and address the needs of our community. These efforts include enhancing the programs within the Detention Facility to help reduce recidivism within our region.

Leverage Technology
The Sheriff’s Office is committed to acquiring state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Leveraging technology to increase efficiency, enhance regional information sharing, and analytical capacities. Utilizing innovative technologies will increase the Sheriff’s Office overall effectiveness and improve overall outcomes. We will continue to leverage technology systems that focus on reducing crime and enhancing the services we provide our community.

- Expand new technologies to improve crime analysis and effectiveness stratified policing.
- Utilize Technology to increase safety of Washoe
County (LPR’s throughout valley/Incline basin) - Implement new CAD/RMS/JMS system
- Enhance equipment and technology to improve training for all Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Use creative and innovate methods to attract a diverse and talented workforce that reflects the community we serve. We will prioritize best practices through training, duty assignments and advancement to retain highly skilled, diverse and qualified personnel. We will improve employee wellness programs and enhance job satisfaction.

1. Improve recruitment, retention and promotion efforts for a diverse work force.
2. Enhance the quality of all Field Training Programs at all ranks.
3. Ensure in-service training incorporates modern equipment, tactics and case law.

When to notify the captain

1. An incident where a member of this Office is seriously injured or killed, whether on duty or off duty
2.A major fire, flood, explosion or other natural or manmade disaster within or adjacent to Washoe County.
3. A shooting incident involving a member of this Office whether or not someone is injured.
4. When a member of this Office is arrested regardless of the offense.
When to notify a captain

- Any plane crash within Washoe County.
- A school bus accident resulting in injuries or fatalities that is investigated by this
- A bomb threat that involves a County building or a Sheriff’s facility.
- A kidnapping for ransom or extortion within the jurisdiction of this Office.
When to notify the captain

- A homicide case investigated by this Office.
- A call for the WCSO Bomb Squad that requires an evacuation, or if injury result of an explosion.
- A major crime of such a spectacular or unusual nature as to stimulate the general community interest
Critical incident check off list 1-5
- Establish a perimeter
- Make required notifications
- Establish a Command Post
- Call for additional resources (SWAT, Hostage, Fire, Medics, Bomb, Addition Patrol Personnel, FIS, Detectives)
- Locate a staging area for special teams

- Evacuate civilians, if needed (Code 10, reverse 911)
- Establish outer perimeter and traffic control
- Notify on call DA and Risk Manager
- Contact PIO for response
- Gather Intelligence on building, subjects, location of utilities, heat sources, etc.

- Identify Witnesses and obtain statements or hold for detectives
- Obtain warrant or permission to search
- Develop search teams
- Arrange for outside agency assist on calls for service
- Begin preparations for housing and food for displaced persons (American Red
Cross)

16.Contact utility companies to turn off services (gas/electric/phone/water)
17. Arrange for relief for deputies in field and order food/drinks
18. Request additional lighting if needed (Search and Rescue)

Upon learning of a peace officer-involved shooting, the Watch Commander shall be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the incident until relieved by a supervisor of higher rank
