Command and general staff meeting- ensure PIO objectives are captured.
Planning meeting, Report on status of significant public information activities, stakeholder involvement, and any other significant PIO status updates.

To provide a unified message to the public and the media

What is a 202B and why is it important?
202 B is Critical information requirements. This form is important because it lays out the immediate reporting thresholds to the command.
What is PAG?
Public affairs guidance (PAG) is frequently used to support spokespeople, commanding officers, and officers-in-charge. PAG is developed at the PADET, district, or area public affairs office, or Commandant (CG-0922) levels relevant to the ownership of the issue or event for which the guidance is provided

What does the acronym SAPP stand for?
security, accuracy, policy, and propriety.
The acronym is a helpful way to gage whether or not a subject of information is releasable or not.
Who has the authority to Release information?
Area commanders, district commanders, sector commanders, commanding officers, and officers-in-charge are the release authority for information on their respective activities without prior approval from higher authority
When is the release of a name authorized during an active case?
The Coast Guard will release the names of individuals being sought in connection with overdue cases. This release of information is part of the operational mission.

What kind of information cannot be released?
Information that would violate any element of security policy or mission integrity.
Trade secret information
The Coast Guard shall not require survivors to engage the media
Names of victims shall not be released until next of kin have been notified.
Names of survivors shall not be released until positive identification has been made
Coast Guard members shall not discuss the specific details of a victim’s injuries or the condition of remains
The names of Coast Guard personnel who survived an accident shall not be released until the names of the dead can also be released to prevent the media or families from surmising the names of the dead.

What is a JIC, and who should be a part of it?
The JIC is the central location that facilitates the operation of the JIS. It is a physical or an Internet-based virtual location where personnel with public information responsibilities perform media and community relations during an incident or event. The JIC structure is designed to work equally well for large or small incidents and can expand or contract to meet the needs of the incident.

What trigger will you have to standup a JIC?
The JIC structure is most useful when multiple organizations must coordinate timely, accurate information to the public and other stakeholders. Emergency situations could include natural disasters, oil spills and other hazardous substance releases or terrorist incidents. The JIC structure may also be useful in coordinating multi-agency event planning for major meetings and events, such as the Olympics, Super Bowl.

How will you interact with the Liaison Petty Officer and how will you differ?
The PIO and LOFR should discuss and decide on the delineation of certain responsibilities.
The LOFR is responsible for working with any public entity requesting incident information, namely assisting and cooperating agencies, stakeholder groups, and government officials who have a vested interest and will be expected to provide input into the response process.
