A

. Pitt reduced the tariff’s on trade which therefore encouraged more countries to trade with Britain as it was cheaper.
. He gave New merchants and industrialists the opportunity to make money which put them on par with the landed aristocracy.
. To try to implement the policy of free trade

How successful were Pitts trade policies?

A

. He was able to double Britains trade profits from a deficit of £2.5million to a surplus of £2million.
. A trade deal with France helped improve relations between the two countries as well as increasing the size of Britains trade in economy.

How were Pitts trade policies not successful?

A

. There was a lot of opposition to Pitt trying to implement the idea of free trade and because of this many free trade deals with other countries could not be made e.g. A free trade deal with Ireland in 1785 had to be dropped because of opposition.
