Pituitary Hormones Guyton Flashcards
(11 cards)
What are the two parts of the pituitary gland
Anterior (adenohypophysis)
Posterior (neurohypophysis)
What 6 hormones are released from the adenohypophysis?
ACTH
FSH
LH
Growth hormone
TSH
prolactin
What 2 hormones are released from the neurohypophysis?
ADH/vasopressin, oxytocin
Which neurons secrete the hormones from the neurohypophysis? Where are they located?
Magnocellular neurons
hypothalamus
What is the releasing hormone for TSH?
TRH
What is the releasing hormone for ACTH?
CRH
What is the releasing hormone for growth hormone?
Somatostatin, GHRH
What is the releasing hormone for FSH/LH?
GRH
What is the releasing hormone for Prolactin?
prolactin inhibitory hormone (PIH)
How does growth hormone effect carbohydrate utilization?
Decreases it by causing insulin resistance.
How is ADH regulated?
Increased ECF osmolarity noted by osmoreceptors stimulates ADH (near hypothalamus)
Low blood volume and low BP. ADH also causes vasoconstriction in high concentrations
