Living Space

A

Imtiaz Dharker uses this poem to speak about her personal experience in Mumbai.
She observes the hope and resilience of the people living in those challenging environments.
——————–
Structure reflects the instability and imbalance of the slum environment that the poem describes.
The poem is made up of 3 uneven stanzas.
The lack of rhyme mirrors the chaotic and unstable physical space of the slums.
Use of enjambment creates a sense of movement and disorder as if the lines are leaning.
Irregular line length and jagged visual layout reflects the improvised nature of the structure.

Q

London

A

Written by the Romantic poet Blake.
He wrote the poem to illustrate how London a city that he once loved was rapidly changing due to industrialisation.
Most of his poetry sought to highlight the differences between social classes and improve the welfare of others.
——————–
Has a regular rhyme scheme and almost sounds like a children’s nursery rhyme.
The contents overruns the ideas found in children’s novels.
It is clear that Blake condemns and demonises the rich who turn their face to the suffering that the less fortunate go through.
He believes that London can only be redeemed if we open our ears and listen to the needs of it’s people.
