Planet Earth Flashcards
(3 cards)
Shape of the Earth
Oblate spheroid
Features of Earths major internal divisions (Crust, Mantle, Inner Core, Outer Core)
Crust: Thin and rocky ranging from 0-70km
Older, lower density continental crust, and newer, thinner Oveanic Crust
Split into tectonic plates
Mantle : Semi-Molten rock makes up ~80% of Earths volume. Convection currents drive plate movement
Outer Core : made of liquid Iron and Nickel, responsible for our magnetic field
Inner Core: Solid Iron and Nickel at ~5500K and high pressures
How does the Earths atmosphere affect seeing conditions
Sky is blue during the day as Light is scattered at the shortest wavelength Skyglow is caused by light pollution from human activities. Constant air movement causes light to refract and makes stars appear to twinkle
