Plant and animal cells Flashcards
(13 cards)
Cell
The smallest unit of all living organisms sometimes called the building block of life.
Nucleus
Contains DNA and controls the cell’s activity.
Cell membrane
Surrounds the cell and controls the movement of materials into and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm
Jelly-like fluid where chemical reactions take place.
Mitochondria
The site of respiration, providing the cell with energy.
Respiration
The proccess by which food and oxygen are converted to energy, water and carbon dioxide.
Vacuole
Contains a watery liquid called cell sap, this keeps the cell firm.
Chloroplasts
Organelle that contains the green pigment, chlorophyll that is used in photosynthesis.
Chlorophyll
A green pigment that traps light for photosynthesis.
Cell wall
Protects and supports the plant cell.
Light microscope
A microscope that contains more than one lens and uses light transmitted to your eye to form an image.
What is in a Plant cell?
They contain 7 components :
Cell wall, vacuole, chloroplasts, Nucleus, Mitochondria, Cell membrane, Cyroplasm.
What is in an animal cell?
They contain 4 components :
Nucleus, Cell membrane, Cytoplasm and Mitochondria
