Plant Cells Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
Cell Wall
A
Since plants do not have a skeleton, their structure and strength come from individual cells. Each cell’s wall, made of strong cellulose, contributes to the overall support.
2
Q
Vacuole
A
The vacuole fills with water, similar to a water balloon inside a paper bag. As the vacuole fills, the cell expands. If the vacuole loses water, the cell loses internal pressure, causing the plant to wilt.
3
Q
Chloroplast
A
Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll. It is in the chloroplast where carbon dioxide and water are combined using energy from the sun to create sugar and oxygen.
