Plant Defences Flashcards
(3 cards)
Physical plant defences from pathogens
1) callose production in plasmodesmata acts as a barrier so pathogens can’t enter
2) lignin is added so mechanical barrier to inavasion even thicker and stronger
3) stomata closes to prevent entry through the stoma
Chemical plant defences of plant
1) insect repellents
2) antibacterial compounds like phenols which disrupt bacterial membranes
3) general toxins produced when chemicals are broken
How is plant response to pathogen triggered
1) receptors in cells respond to molecules from pathogen
2) stimulates release of signalling molecules that switch genes on in nucleus
3) triggers cellular responses to produce chemical responses and physical strength
