Q

What are Xylems ?

A

Xylem consists of tracheid’s, vessels, xylem parenchyma and xylem fibers. Tracheid’s and vessels have thick walls, and many are dead cells when mature. Tracheid’s and vessels are tubular structures. This allows them to transport water and minerals vertically. The parenchyma stores food.

Phloem helps in the translocation of food after photosynthesis in the leaves to various parts of the plant. Phloem consists of four elements. They are sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem fibers and phloem parenchyma.
• Except phloem fiber all are living cells.
• Sieve tubes are tubular with perforated walls.
• Phloem transport is bidirectional.
