Q

Mid ocean ridges

A
  • midocean ridges are geogrpahically extensive landforms on the planet.
  • a continuous range of underwater volcanoes that wraps around the globe like seams on a baseball
  • youngest seafloor is always found along mid-ocean ridge
-new basalt is formed at volcanoes along midocean ridges through decompression melting.

Q

Rift valley:

A

Long valley with volcanoes formed by rifting.

-As rift valleys open and deepen, may flood with seawater, creating an inland sea and, with more time, a new ocean basin
