Plate Tectonics Flashcards
(8 cards)
Constructive plate
Moves away from each other, the magma from the earth flows up and dries to form new land immediately
Destructive Plate
When an oceanic plate moves towards a continental plate, and subducts under it. The heat and pressure of the magma then melt the oceanic plate. This can form a trench.
Conservative Plate
When two plates slide past each other. If the plates get stuck they can cause an earthquake.
Collision Plate
When two continental plates slide toward each other. Can form mountains/hills.
Example of constructive plates
Eurasian and North American
Example of destructive plates
The South American and nazca plate.
Example of conservative plates
North American and pacific plates
Example of collision plates
Indian and Eurasian plates
