-Meta= Beyond
-Physical= Nature
=Beyond the natural world we live in

-He believed in the existence of an immaterial world with perfect ideas/forms and objects. He believed that objects and ideas/forms of the real world (material world) were copies of the immaterial world (metaphysical world)

-Explains the existence of the essence of things beyond the physical world using concepts of reason.

-How can we know the truth of things, in this case, the essence of things beyond the world of the senses
