Pleura and Lungs Flashcards
What is the costal part of the parietal pleura?
Covers the internal surfaces of the thoracic wall and is separated by the endothoracic fascia
What are the four parts of the parietal pleura?
Costal part, mediastinal part, diaphargmatic part, cervical pleura
What is the mediastinal part of the parietal pleura?
Covers the lateral aspects of the mediastinum
What is the diaphragmatic part of the parietal pleura?
Covers the superior surface of the diaphragm on each side of the mediastinum
What is the cervical pleura of the parietal pleura?
Forms a cup shaped dome over the apex of the lung
What is the potential space between the parietal and visceral pleura?
Pleural cavity
What can be found in the pleural cavity?
Parietal fluid which lubricates the pleural surface and allows the layers to slide over one another during respiration
What innervates the lungs and visceral pleura?
Parasympathetic fibers from the vagus nerve (CN X) and sympathetic fibers from the sympathetic trunks
What innervates the costal and peripheral parietal pleura?
Intercostal nerves
What innervates the central and diaphragmatic parietal pleura?
Phrenic nerve
What are the three surfaces of the lungs?
Costal, mediastinal, and diaphragmatic
What are the three borders of the lungs?
Anterior, inferior, and posterior borders
What encloses the root of the lungs?
Parietal sleeve
What structures form the root of the lung?
Main bronchus, pulmonary vessels, bronchial vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves
What supports the walls of the trachea and bronchi?
C shaped hyaline cartilages
