- viral infection
- bacterial infection
- rheumatic disease i.e. RA
- medications

pathogenesis of pluerisy?
A
- pleura become inflammed
- 2 layers rub on each other
- pain on exahalation and inhalation

natural history of pleurisy?
A
- untreated = pleural effusion
- might cause complete lung collapse
- more fluid = prone to infection

manifestions of pleurisy?
A
- progressive difficulty breathing (dyspnoea)
- cough and pluritic chest pain?

symptoms of pluerisy?
A
- chest pain - worse with cough/sneezing/breathing deeper
- shortness of breath - trying to reduce expansion of breathing
- cough
- fever

complications of pleurisy?
A
- breathing difficulty - cyanosis
- collapsed lung - due to removal of fluid (thoracentesis)
- further infection

prognosis of pleurisy?
A
- early treatment = full recovery
