Contaminated mail

1) Immediately cease handling the article.

2) Cover the article with anything appropriate and readily available, e.g. a piece of paper, a bag, trash can, napkin/tissue, file folder, newspaper, etc.

3) If any content spill out of the article, turn off any fans, air conditioners, etc. and close any windows to reduce the likelihood of the content being dispersed

4) Leave the room and, where possible, close the door. To prevent further possible contamination of other areas, DO NOT leave the immediate area.

5) If possible, wash hands and any other exposed area of the skin that may have come into contact with the mail with soap and water.

6) Notify your “Facility Emergency Contact Person(s)”. (Note that equipment used to place the emergency call should be considered contaminated equipment and treated accordingly.)
