‘How I miss my father’
Caesura, emotional. Repeated through the poem, showing how she cares and mourns him.
‘I wish he had not been so tired’
Regret, he wasnt always there and wishes he was. Realistic not idealistic. Shows guilt.
‘Writing deposits and checks’
Teaching her life skills; finance, banking personal. Some of many skills he gave to her that she still holds onto. Use of semantic field conveys he was in a bad financial state and wanted her to avoid it.
What does the uneven structure represent?
Represents how random money can come in/ be
‘Escape the life he knew’
Emphasises that he wanted his daughter to avoid poverty.
‘Always telling the truth did not mean a beating’
He was a caring dad teaching good values
‘Many of my truths must have grieved him before the end’
Cause him stress, yet still loved her. Very fair, kind, accepting father. ‘Before the end’- still grieve him
‘Like a fun person dancing’ device?
Simile. Happy, fun, loving person. Set an example.
