Hyperbole
When a poet uses exaggeration to get their point across.
Ex. The tree was 50 feet tall!
Onomatopoeia
The use of words which sound like the thing that they represent.
Ex - buzz,bang.
Rhyme
When words sound the same.
Ex - mat, cat, bat.
Repetition
Words/phrases repeated near each other
Rhythm
The beat of the Poem.
Alliteration
When words in a poem/sentence (s) start with the same letter.
Ex - Tom the tired tiger tackled the terrible turtle Tony.
Simile
A comparison between 2 unlike things that have something in common.
Ex - like two peas in a pod.
Imagery
The images a poet creates with their words.
Metaphor
A figure of speech to compare things without using things as βlikeβ.
Ex - You have the heart of a lion.
Personification
When poets give non-human things human qualities.
