Context of the manhunt

A

This poem was part of a series to raise awareness of PTSD and how this disorder impacts many soldiers and other individuals who have served in military conflict zones. Speaker represents Laura, wife of Eddie beddoe who was a peacemaker in the 1990s Croat-Bosniak conflict and he was shot three times causing severe injuries to his face and body.

The manhunt first quote and technique

A

“Only then would he let me trace the frozen river which ran through his face”. Repetition of “only then” shows the time it takes to restore. Enjambment throughout to show the slow process of healing through the trauma. Metaphor “frozen river” describes his scar and emotional coldness.

A

“Then I widened the search”. Use of first person pronoun and implying to title shows that it also affects the wife a lot and how war impacts a lot more people than just the people who combat and relation to title reflects a man who is lost and some who people are looking for reflecting the distance in the relationship because of combat.
