Poetic voice
the distinctive style of a poet that’s created by using specific words, techniques, and grammatical rules. It’s what makes a poem recognizable as the work of a particular poet.
Metonymy
The substitution of a name of an attribute or adjunct for that of the thing meant - Hollywood used to describe the American film industry.
Deictic centre
a reference point that gives meaning to deictic expressions.
Paradox
A seemingly absurd or contradictory statement or proposition which when investigated may prove to be well founded or true.
Lexical intensity
a linguistic variable that refers to the degree to which a speaker’s attitude toward a concept differs from neutrality -best of all, or absolutely.
Collocation
The habitual juxtaposition of particular words that are often used together to create a specific meaning.
