Scansion
A system to describe the meter of a poem by identifying the number and type of feet per line. Lines are scanned to identify type. ie. monometer, dimeter, trimeter, tetrameter, pentameter, hexameter, heptameter, octameter

Six-line stanza

Strategy/Rhetorical Strategy
Mangement of language for special effect. It is the planned pacing of elements to achieve an effect. ie. In love poems strategy is to convince speaker's lover to return. This is typically done through sympathy, flattery or threats.

Synechdoche
A form of metaphor which in mentioning a paet mentions a whole. ie. field hands suggests manual labours who work in agriculture

Syntax
The ordering of words into pattern or sentences. Older styles deviate from usual word order. Shift in word order can also be to emphasize.

A stanza made up of 3 lines in which each ends with same rhyme
