Enjambment
noun
(in verse) the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line, couplet, or stanza.
End stopped line
An end-stopped line is a feature in poetry in which the syntactic unit (phrase, clause, or sentence) corresponds in length to the line. Its opposite is enjambment, where the sentence runs on into the next line.
Rhyme scheme
noun
the ordered pattern of rhymes at the ends of the lines of a poem or verse.
Free verse
noun
poetry that does not rhyme or have a regular meter.
Blank verse
noun
verse without rhyme, especially that which uses iambic pentameter.
Foot
A poetic foot is a basic repeated sequence of meter composed of two or more accented or unaccented syllables. In the case of an iambic foot, the sequence is “unaccented, accented”. There are other types of poetic feet commonly found in English language poetry.
Rhyme
correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words, especially when these are used at the ends of lines of poetry.
Slant rhyme
Slant rhyme, known also as half-rhyme or imperfect rhyme, refers to words that almost rhyme (farm, yard) or appear to the eye to do so (said, paid).
